The Heygate Estate is to the South-West. The long slab blocks of the heygate will vanish from the skyline when they are demolished from September 2009 as part of the Elephant Regeneration programme.

The Heygate Estate of 1200 properties will be replaced with over 5700 new properties, and the shopping centre (oftern voted as London's most hated building) will be replaced with a new shopping centre and boulevards
